Basketball Irony

For anyone that knows me, the irony of a Wills coaching basketball is similar to a Clinton teaching an ethics class. It just doesn't seem right. However miracles never cease.

The JV Girl's Basketball team for Madison High School has for some reason has been stuck with me as their coach. Maybe it's the fact that I am such a skilled basketball technician? Or quite possibly that my wrestling skills come into play in girl's basketball? More than likely however, it is the fact that the Varsity coach is my sister-in-law and was desperate for a coach on her staff that actually worked at the high school. Thanks Traci.

Dispite my vastly underestimated technical skills in the game, my JV team has seemed to do well this past season and my new crop this summer are doing even better. We just spent the weekend in Pocatello, ID at a team tournament and went undefeated. It doesn't hurt to have 4 girls over 6 foot tall on a JV team. :)

The best thing about the experience is the types of girls we have... bright, fun, well mannered, but getting very competitive. At one point playing against Twin Falls, a conference rival, our team was winning 71-15 and the girls wanted very badly to run it up to 100. However, cooler heads prevailed and we ended the game up 90-16. However, one our guard didn't get the take it easy on them memo and threw up a last minute 3 pointer from 3/4 court which banked in and sent the bench into a frenzy. Obviously we had the win with class discussion later that day.

What a fun weekend. Thanks girls. I look forward to a great year.

A Wills coaching basketball... (holding my laughter inside!)

I know that we love sports and the spirit of competition, but that is just silly. However, if your girls like you and they are winning perhaps there is something to this Wills in B-ball thing. Chandler loves to shoot hoops and beats me in horse from time to time too. So who knows maybe this new generation of Wills will be a little taller and a lot faster. Making them aces on the B-ball floor.

Ohhhh... I am SOOOOOOOOOOO happy that you have a blog now. We are getting the whole brood on the information superhighway.

Maybe this means that some of you really do actually read my blog. I was thinking that I have been so influentual until I realized that I have had my blog for three years previous to all of you. Yeah, right, I am influentual...I know I have nothing to do with you guys getting your blogs...it is all those other Mormons that have got you guys going. I heard everybody in Utah has a blog now a days.

I look forward to many many more posts.

I am loving this one. It has the perfect amount of humor and news update for my taste. All that is missing is a picture. I want to see some of those 6 footers. Where in Idaho do they grow these girls exactly?

I love it that you can coach anything, even basketball...yeah that one is making me laugh too.

When I think about our family and basketball, all I can seem to remember is playing on a slanted driveway while trying desperately to keep the ball out of the oil. :)

It is probably a whole lot easier to coach the sport when they actually have a decent floor on their court. I just hope that you are a lot nicer to those girls than you were to Shannon and I when you were our coach.
